In 2018, a hackathon-like event was organised to test the Scrum Educational Experience Framework. At the time we teamed up with futureCoders at Robert Napier School in Gillingham. The main aim of the event was to inspire young people to go into tech careers and give them the opportunity to develop new skills using the Amazon Alexa Storyline app.
Students took part in 5 sprints and worked on the challenge “How to improve life in Gillingham for teenagers”. They were researching the problem to come up with solutions. After that, they were prototyping and preparing a business model. The final part was to prepare a presentation and pitch. Students were presenting in front of the judges. These included two developers from Amazon Alex team who kindly volunteered their time, Derek Cullen and Jamie Grossman and Vasili Shynkarenka, the founder thestoryline.io . Vasili joined a video conference from California.
Students had amazing and creative ideas. The winning team: Lauren, Kane, Harry, and Thomas – made the Echo Run Smart app, which could help Gillingham teenagers run safely.
Students got prizes from Space Between and Amazon Alexa.
The whole day was a real success. A big thank you to all the volunteers, Karen from futureCoders and Tim Smith, Head of ICT and Business at Robert Napier School for their hard work, motivation, and support.
